Remembering Victory Auto Wreckers: A Chicago Legend
If you're a Chicago native, chances are you have fond memories of Victory Auto Wreckers. For decades, this iconic company has been a staple in the local community, known for their memorable commercials and reliable service.
THE COMMERCIALS
Who could forget those commercials featuring the big green junk car and the unforgettable line, "That old car is worth money"? Dean Richards from WGN9 lent his voice to this famous saying, which has been etched into the minds of Chicagoans since 1991. The commercials always featured the same imagery: a bearded man with a mullet effortlessly pulling a car door off its hinges, showcasing Victory Auto Wreckers' commitment to buying junk cars and paying cash for them.
THE LEGACY
Victory Auto Wreckers wasn't just known for their commercials – they were legends in the Chicago area for their reliable service and fair deals. For 78 years, they served the community by buying people's junk cars and providing them with much-needed cash. Their longevity and reputation made them a trusted name in the industry, and their impact on the local community cannot be understated.
THE MAN BEHIND THE COMMERCIAL
In November 5, 2023, the Chicago Tribune revealed an interesting tidbit about the iconic Victory Auto Wreckers commercial: the man sporting the beard and mullet was none other than Bob Zajdel, a tow truck driver for Victory Auto Wreckers. His appearance in the commercial added an authentic touch to the advertisements, and his portrayal of a rugged junk car enthusiast resonated with audiences across Chicago.
As we reflect on the legacy of Victory Auto Wreckers, it's clear that they left an indelible mark on the Chicago community. From their memorable commercials to their commitment to customer satisfaction, Victory Auto Wreckers will always hold a special place in the hearts of Chicagoans. Though they may no longer be active, their impact will be remembered for years to come.
